WEAPON + JEWELRY

Self defense meets accessory.
Now you can fight off creeps and look good while doing so.
I'd say it's a win, win.

I ♥ FAKE

Some favorite images from I Love Fake Magazine.

I seriously could sit and look through this mag for hours; i just love the imagery.
I like that it's not over done or trying too hard to be edgy or different.
 It's just a great compilation of raw, original, and real fashion editorial spreads.
A rare commodity in the fashion industry now a days.
Oooh indie mags *sighs*

THAT'S NOT MY NAME

{Images and artwork via: Simmy, Textile Design Banner via: Philadelphia Universty}

Many if not all of you know me, Siminetta, as Simmy.  As it turns out that happens to be my pen name which is derived from my actual last name Casimir.  My full name is Elesha Casimir; I am a freelance textile designer, artist, blogger, and model.  I studied textile design with an interest in fashion at Philadelphia University. In December 2010 (this month!) I graduated with a bachelor of science degree in textile design. If you happen to be searching for any of my art on the web or you want to contact me specifically about my work you can email me at:
 EleshaCasimir@gmail.com or visit my website --> Elesha Casimir

Recently our dear friend Isaiah from Dapper Deacon featured some of my work on his blog.  Get inspired, and please do  take a peek!

IRON SPINE (D.I.Y.)

{Images and materials via: Simmy}

Materials
      • Black Heels (I snagged my Dolce Vida pumps on Kembrel.com for a fraction of the origInal price. Kembrel's online store is similar to Gilt Groupe, designer items marked way down).
      • Black Quilters Thread
      • Needle
      • Scissors
      • Industrial Hot Glue Gun
      • All Purpose Clear Glue Stick
      • Black Leather Strip (1" wide x 10" high)
      • Screw Back Studs
Directions
      • Apply metal screw back studs to black leather strip.  Apply vertically with each stud being about 1/2 inch distance apart from each other.
      • Use industrial glue gun (loaded with all purpose clear glue stick) to apply the studded black leather strip to the back of the black heels. (That's a tongue twister!)
      • Once the strip has been applied to the heel there should be approximately 4 inches in excess material.
      • Fold the extra material over so that there is a loop. You can either sew the remaining leather strip together or glue it. (Sewing it makes the piece malleable while gluing it gives the studded leather piece a structured appearance) Zee choice is yours.
Get creative. Enjoy.

YAZBUKEY

{Image via: Yazbukey}

I was introduced to the accessories brand Yazbukey when I saw style icon Michelle Harper wearing some of their pieces during Paris fashion week this past season.  The kitschy accessories line was started by two sisters Yaz and Emel.  The idea for the brand began with their desire to embellish a black dress.

TRAIN HOPPERS

 {Inspiration board and Jacquard fabric via: Simmy Mere of F.I.T.S}

 This semester I collaborated with a fashion designer to develop a Jacquard fabric for her collection inspired by train hoppers.  The motifs within the Jacquard were drawn from antique Septa railroad maps.  The fiber type consists of 50 % wool and 50% cotton for warmth.  To achieve the strong structural look (see above) I constructed a tri-pick, tissue pick.  This construction not only allows for upholstery weighted fabric but also for the fresh, occasional pop of color (which can be seen in the burgundy dots which represent individual destinations).   I look forward to working with more fashion designers in the future.  I'm always up for a good challenge!

PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET 2010

{Images via: R5 Productions and Fly Girls}

Punk Rock Flea Market is an event unique to Philadelphia that started a couple years back. This year the flea market has grown to accommodate 200+ tables of vendors selling old records, clothes, art, music, food, bicycles, instruments, automobiles, posters and much much more! All proceeds went to making sure that all ages shows remains a reality at the First Unitarian Church and other all ages venues. It was pretty awesome to donate to a good cause and have an awesome shopping experience simultaneously! Look for the return of the flea market Summer 2011.
